Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has announced that he's giving $100 million to educational charities:
The Netflix CEO has launched a $100 million philanthropic fund aimed at supporting education groups and initiatives. The Hastings Fund’s first gift is $1.5 million that will go to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley “to provide students of color with exceptional post-secondary educational experiences,” according to the fund’s website.
Big moves like this one are key in moving the needle on improvements to our education system. It's important to remember that smaller donations are just as important in the aggregate, however. There's always more than enough room for all of us to make a meaningful impact.
